2024 – a look back

Another great season almost behind us. 30 groups of different sizes trained in Slovenia this year and they were from Austria, Czech Republic, Hungary, Switzerland, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Germany, Norway and Sweden! Among these groups, there are several national teams; Team Czech R., Team Norway (juniors), Team Switzerland (juniors), Italian team…

In 2025 Swiss senior national team will come for training camp as well as Czech team and more.

March and April were the most popular months, but we had groups in other months as well, like February, August and October. Some individuals and families wanted to do orienteering during the summer.

We have made some new maps in Croatian sunny region Dalmatia; Zadar, Vodice, Primošten and now together with Split, Šibenik and Trogir, we have a great sprint destination with some excellent urban terrain.

We have updated some popular maps around Lipica as well as the area around Mala Lazna on Trnovo plateau which will be used for trainings for the upcoming EYOC in Slovenia in 2026. Right now a new map is being made for Lipica open, which will be open for training after the race. There are still quite some square kilometers to update in Kras region!

We have made some new maps in beautiful forests of Dolenjska region, some of which will be used for Easter4 (Sušica) or just for trainings (Kronovska hosta enlarged, Otočec). So, yes, Easter4 is coming back in 2025!

We have started promoting Sprintomania – the intense sprint training camp with the first edition to be organized in February 2025 on Slovenian coast.

Back in March we organized Training camp for a group of nearly 100 youngsters from Norway. The trip was organized by Norwegian national federation and it consisted of junior national team runners as well as many promising young athletes. We suggested terrain and planned most of the courses for them. Here is a short interview with Håvard Haga, the group leader:

How come you have decided for training camp in Slovenia and how come the group was so large?
Håvard: I have always wanted to try the terrains in Lipica, but never had the possibility to go there. This terrain is very untypical for runners from Norway, so it was decided it was good for our junior’s development to go to the Lipica area for a training camp.

What was the goal of the camp and do you feel it was accomplished?
Håvard: The goal of the camp was to get better in this type of karst terrains, and I will say we had huge progress during the week. Especially when it comes to route choices and knowing what was important to use in our orienteering.

How did your runners “get along” with the karst terrain? I guess for most of them it was something new?
This type of terrain was something new for almost everyone. In the beginning, it was difficult for many of the runners, and it was especially difficult to maintain a good direction through the forest.

Which forest area did you like the most?
I really enjoyed the terrain and map at Krajna Vas. This was really technical, and the runnability was really good as well.

How would you describe the overall experience of TC in Slovenia, terrain, maps, our service..?
The overall experience was really good. The trainings were so good, and the service we got with everything couldn’t have been any better. Our stay at the hotel was also really nice, so overall I will really recommend a training camp in Lipica!
